The 112 Emergency Medical Services and System in Anambra State stands as a cornerstone of the state’s healthcare infrastructure, dedicated to providing swift and effective medical assistance during emergencies.
Launched on May 11th, 2023, by the Minister of Health, Dr. Enahire Osagie, ably represented by The National Emergency and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) Programme Coordinator, Dr. Saidu Ahmed, the inception marked a significant milestone in bolstering emergency response capabilities in Anambra State.
Most notably, the launch ceremony saw the presence of key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, representing the Executive Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Obike Afam Ben. Additionally, representatives from various agencies such as the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Fire Service, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), among others, graced the occasion, underscoring the collaborative effort involved in enhancing emergency healthcare services.

Anambra State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (ASEMSAS) offers a comprehensive array of emergency medical services tailored to address a diverse range of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. From basic life support interventions to advanced medical care, the ASEMSAS system is equipped to handle emergencies of varying severity. Services provided include but are not limited to:
- Cardiac care and resuscitation
- Trauma stabilization and management
- Obstetric and neonatal care
- Pediatric emergencies
- Stroke and neurological emergencies
- Toxicological emergencies
- Psychiatric emergencies
- Road accidents
Ambulance Fleet
The ASEMSAS comprises a modern and diverse range of ambulances equipped with advanced medical equipment and staffed by highly skilled medical professionals. The fleet includes ambulances tailored to different levels of care, including basic life support (BLS) ambulances staffed by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and advanced life support (ALS) ambulances staffed by paramedics and critical care nurses.
Before the launch, the Anambra State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (ASEMSAS) accredited 36 Ambulances, mostly private sector driven. Today the number of accredited ambulances is progressively increasing in number across the entire state.
Coverage Area:
The ASEMSAS system extends its coverage across the entire state, ensuring that no area is beyond reach in times of emergency. Through strategically located ambulance stations and efficient dispatch systems, the ASEMSAS system guarantees prompt response and assistance to individuals in need, regardless of their location within Anambra State.
